Key elements of South Bank’s charm will remain untouched, including:

  • The iconic Arbour and BRISBANE sign
  • Retaining free public amenities and protecting heritage landmarks like the Allgas Building

 

Proposed playground upgrades on South Bank

The master plan envisions a next-level play experience with innovative features, including:

  • Water play: A misting digital water wall, zero-depth reflection pond, and all-abilities Aquativity space
  • Nature play: Tiered playgrounds and multifunctional shaded areas
  • Integrated design: Play spaces seamlessly connecting with cultural, dining, and event zones
  • An 8% increase in accessible parkland, adding the equivalent of nearly two football fields of new green and public space

 

A bigger, better lagoon

The much-loved beach and lagoon, now nearly 30 years old, are set for an upgrade. Plans include:

  • Expanding the beach towards Stanley Street Plaza
  • Introducing an all-abilities Aquativity water play area

South Bank’s enhancements are designed with families in mind:

  • Epicurious Garden Relocation: Connecting to Little Stanley Street dining and a First Nations bush tucker trail
  • New Public Spaces: Realigning Clem Jones Promenade, enhancing the Cultural Forecourt, and adding a riverfront space near the Dry Dock
  • Treetop Walk and Tilted Lawn: Offering unique ways to relax and explore
  • Market and Playscape: A covered market space and a signature playscape for kids
  • Tourist Hub: A Brisbane-to-Bay hub for tour boats
