SunnyKids’ Christmas toy drive to bring magic to local kids in need

For many Sunshine Coast families, Christmas can be a difficult time. But this year, SunnyKids is on a mission to ensure every child experiences the joy and magic of the season through its annual ‘Sunny Xmas for Kids‘ Christmas Toy Drive.

For many Sunshine Coast families, Christmas can be a painful time rather than a season of celebration. That’s why SunnyKids is calling on the community to rally behind its annual Sunny Xmas for Kids Christmas Toy Drive, ensuring that every child supported by the organisation feels seen, cared for, and remembered this festive season.

Donations of new, unwrapped gifts are being accepted now through to Monday 15 December 2025 at SunnyKids, 9 Maud Street, Maroochydore.

SunnyKids provides vital support to families and children affected by domestic and family violence, hardship, and homelessness across the Sunshine Coast. Last year, the organisation helped more than 3,600 people, including over 2,300 children, through crisis accommodation, counselling, and education programs .

“For many of the children in our care, Christmas isn’t filled with joy and celebration,” SunnyKids CEO Kathleen Hope said. “Instead, it’s a painful reminder of what they don’t have; gifts they won’t receive and a family situation that’s falling apart. The holiday season can amplify their feelings of fear, loss, and confusion, as they face the reality of their lives.

“But we can make a difference. Through careful planning and the support of people like you, we can provide these children with the care they need, not just at Christmas, but every day of the year. While we’ll make sure they receive presents and food this holiday season, it’s the days after Christmas and the year ahead that are just as critical.

“With your donation, we can ensure that these children get the wraparound support they need throughout 2024. This includes counselling, medical care, food and clothing, school supplies, educational support, and expert safety planning to keep them safe from harm. Your gift today will help us build a brighter, safer future for children who need it most. Give a child the gift of hope and a better tomorrow.”

SunnyKids is calling for gifts suitable for all ages, particularly for children aged eight and up, where donations are often limited. Popular ideas include Lego, sporting gear, craft kits, board games, headphones, beach towels, and vouchers .

Supporters can also make financial donations online to help fund gifts, food hampers, and ongoing family support.

Supporters are encouraged to share the campaign on social media using #SunnyKids #SunnyXmasForKids #GiveHope #ItTakesAVillage.
