Peregian Beach Community House officially opens!

After more than eight years of planning and overcoming many challenges, including bush fires, coronavirus and construction woes, the new Peregian Beach Community House has officially opened.

The new Community House is the centrepiece of the $5.2 million Rufous Street Precinct Stage Three, which also includes a 4,000 square-metre greenspace with sculptured gardens, a play area, winding footpaths and carpark.

Kubi Kubi artist Lyndon Davis opened with a Welcome to Country and didgeridoo performance. With their kindy located next door, little ones from Peregian Beach Community Kindy joined the celebrations with a story time and afternoon tea.

“Today is a great day. We celebrate the opening of a space that is about coming together and about being together,” Mayor Clare Stewart says.

“We’ve had to overcome a few hurdles along the way with this project, but it’s all been worth it to deliver the high-quality asset unveiled.”

Llew O´Brien, Federal Member for Wide Bay says the facility will serve the community for years to come.

“Whether it’s yoga or dancing or creating software that’s cutting edge and state-of-the-art, this will serve the community and will adapt into the future for these young ones,” Mr O’Brien says.

Noosa Council’s Community Services Director, Kerri Contini says the project epitomises what community is about.

“It’s about perseverance and commitment and coming together even when the going is tough,” she says.

“I can’t wait to see over the next years and decades the community that will come through this space, these beautiful children that will embrace this space as their own.”

Diverse activities at Peregian Beach Community House

The new Peregian Beach Community House offers a range of spaces for a variety of casual or long-term activities. There is a hall, enclosed deck, kitchen, fenced garden, amenities and baby change facilities. There is also ample off-street parking on Rufous Street and at the Digital Hub.

The usable space offers opportunities for health and wellbeing classes and activities, support groups, community meetings, special interest meetings, seminars and workshops, exhibitions and displays, and other activities.

Peregian Beach Community House has a wonderfully bright feel to it. The sustainable design flows naturally into the green space and native landscaping outside.
