Dance Empire Sunshine Coast offers Kinderballet accredited classes:
‘Preschool Ballet’ is simply ballet aimed at the preschool level. Kinderballet is a ballet program developed specifically for children aged from 16 months to 9 years, as an introduction to Classical Ballet. The challenge with teaching this age group is to hold their attention while introducing them to basic movement principles.
In the Kinderballet classes, the children learn Classical ballet steps and develop basic gross motor skills through imagery and story-telling. Dance Empire’s programs are strongly influenced by current pre-school education trends in teaching through play. Pre-school children are a highly imaginative age group with pretend play being an important aspect of child development.
Dance Empire is a proud licensee of Kinderballet
Dance Empire offers several different programs for children aged 16 months to 9 years specific to developmental needs of each age bracket. Use your child’s age to select the most appropriate program for them!
Mummy and Me
Ages: 16 months – 3.5 years
Duration: 30 minutes
Fees: $15.50/ class
“Mummy and Me” – is offered to younger children, aged between 16 months and 3 years. It gives Mum (or the primary care giver) an opportunity to join in and share their child’s experience.
The classes are not yet themed, however there is an emphasis on use of props and imagery, songs and dancing to music, musical response through movement, basic movement co-ordination of gross motor skills and a minor introduction to a couple of ballet steps.
The environment is relaxed and friendly, with no set costuming and no obligation for little ones to continuously participate. The children are encouraged to participate, working closely with their primary care giver, giving them a sense of security and confidence.
The hope is that the “Mummy and Me” program will be a foundation for the Kinderballet program if they choose to continue.
Each session is half an hour in duration and you would normally attend once a week.
Class sizes are limited to 10-12 children per class.
Just like with Kinderballet, there are NO enrolment fees, and NO costumes (or uniforms) to make or buy.
If you have younger ones to look-after (that are too young to participate), you are welcome to bring them along.
Fees: Normal classes: $15.50* per class, paid termly (Please note: we do not offer casual classes) Accident Insurance fee: $15 (per family per term) – covers the enrolled student & Mum!
Tots Kinderballet
Ages: 3-4 years
Duration: 45 minutes
Fees: $18.50 / class
The ‘Tots’ program is for children who are ready to take instruction from a teacher and work independently of their parent. Children are introduced to the idea of working in a group under the guidance of a teacher.
The program aims to present a ballet class in a way that will keep a small child’s interest by having fun and being imaginative.
Kiddies Kinderballet
Ages: 4-5 Years
Duration: 45 minutes
Fees: $18.50 / class
The ‘Kiddies’ program is for children who are in their final year of kinder prior to going to school. Children are expected to be more acquainted with working in a group under the guidance of a teacher.
The program aims to present a ballet class in a way that will keep a small child’s interest by having fun and being imaginative.
The programs become a little more complex as the year progresses, to accommodate the children’s preparation for school readiness.
While all children have varied co-ordination abilities, we try and aim to teach all children to skip prior to them going to school.
Mixed Kinderballet
Ages: 3 years to 5 years
Duration: 45 minutes
Fees: $18.50 / class
A combined Tots and Kiddies class.
Next Steps
Ages: Prep and Grade 1
Duration: 45 minutes
Fees: $18.50 / class
Following on from the preschool Kinderballet™ programs, Next Steps is developed to be an inspiring, challenging and fun approach to learning classical ballet. Expressing stories through movement – experiencing great traditional classical ballets, inspiring individual response to music and dancing.
Developing basic classical ballet technique and increasing the range of ballet steps and the ways in which to execute them. The emphasis is still on your child’s enjoyment without neglecting the importance of laying solid foundations of dance tuition
Aspirants
Ages: Grade 2 and Grade 3
Duration: 45 minutes
Fees: $18.50 / class
Following on from the Next Steps programs, Aspirants is developed to be the next stage in learning classical ballet. Unlike Next Steps, Aspirants doesn’t follow a class theme, but follows the structure of a traditional ballet class with barre work and centre practice.
While the class largely focuses on Classical ballet technique and building on the foundations laid by the previous levels to increase the repertoire of steps, the class is a recreational ballet class for those children wanting to experience a ballet class once a week. There is an element of creative movement within the program, to allow for freedom of expression and children’s own ability to think creatively. Along with set dances, the children will also have opportunities to develop their own choreographic skills within the class.
