Played by 250 million people in over 200 countries, football (aka soccer) is the most popular sport for kids. It teaches teamwork, agility, and (of course) is super fun. Sunshine Coast kids can now learn football—Brazilian style! We check out the kids football program Brazilian Skills Soccer. Vamos!
Of all the countries in the world, Brazil has produced some of the world’s most spectacular footballers. Pele, Neymar, and Ronaldinho are all global role models and sporting icons of their time. Now, Sunshine Coast kids can learn to play soccer the Brazilian way, with Brazilian Skills Soccer offering coaching across the Sunshine Coast.
Born and raised in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Cesar da Silva has always been passionate about football. He played for competitive local clubs in Brazil and pursued his interest in sports by obtaining a degree in Physical Education and Sports Coaching in 2008. Over the years, he has gained expertise in conducting early childhood sports programs and coaching football for various age groups. Six years ago, he established Brazilian Skills Soccer to share his knowledge and passion with the local kids. Today, Brazilian Skills Soccer has a team of experienced, professional coaches delivering this exciting style of football from Aura to Tewantin.
Toddler Soccer Program
Kids can join Brazilian Skills Soccer from 21 months old via the toddler program. This fun introduction to sport and kids football is aligned with the early years learning framework.
“We concentrate on developing general coordination, motor skills, cognitive abilities, communication, social interaction, and emotional skills, as well as introducing basic counting and colours,” explains Cesar.
Practised through fun, play-based activities and games, the aim is to nurture a love for sports and an active lifestyle from an early age. “We are not looking for kids to demonstrate good soccer skills. We’re looking at them having fun and learning, using their imagination to play and be active. They aren’t aware they are playing soccer, we are collecting fruits or driving a racing car with a cone steering wheel!”
Preschool kids football program
Kids flow into the Brazilian Skills Soccer preschool program from three and a half years old.
“Our preschool program follows the same approach as the toddler years, still based on fun and games. Kids use their imagination to motivate and engage in activities tailored for this age group.”
Children are also introduced to fundamental soccer skills, such as dribbling, running with and striking the ball.
“The program’s core is to maximise playing time and the kids’ contact with the ball.”
“We create a fun environment to motivate the kids. When it’s fun, the likelihood of them all engaging in the activities will be much higher.”
Primary and club football
Once kids head to primary school, it’s time to move into junior club football. And this is where the Brazilian Skills Soccer program really has the edge. By partnering with Coolum Football Club, they have their own teams in junior leagues—U7s to U11s.
“The kids from our Junior Academy, which is the next stage from our preschool program, can play for Brazilian Skills teams in the junior leagues. So, instead of playing competitive games separately through different clubs, they now play together as a team,” says Cesar.
“Kids train together, play together and grow together. We have a wonderful team culture, and the program has real scope to provide talented players with optimal challenge and skills development.”
Of course, the Brazilian Skills Soccer program is not just for talented kids.
“We run several schools across the Sunny Coast that cater for all skill levels so that you can learn and enjoy Brazilian-style soccer no matter your stage!”
Also, coaching at Brazilian Skills Soccer continues throughout the year, not just during the football season. Most club teams only train during the season, so kids lose their skills in the off-season.
“Our schools train every week—whether in winter or summer, so the skills and passion for football continually grows!”
“Kids can join us from 21 months old and stay with us until 12. We are a training academy, a club and a place to grow and excel.”
Futsal skills training Sunshine Coast
The popularity of futsal has exploded in recent years. Played indoors, this small-sided five-a-side adaptation of football is shorter and more agile than the outdoor game.
Unlike outdoor kids football, futsal is unaffected by rain, and it offers a faster-paced game with usually lots more goals. Played during the Queensland junior soccer off-season, futsal has therefore become a popular choice for younger players.
Being ranked as the World’s number one, the Brazilians really know their stuff when it comes to futsal, and Brazilian Skills Soccer leads the way in futsal skills and development on the Sunshine Coast.
“Futsal demands a unique skill set compared to outdoor soccer and is incredibly enjoyable for kids,” says Cesar.
“We provide futsal skills training year-round to cater to growing local interest. The Sunshine Coast futsal league is booming, and we’re excited to potentially introduce our own Brazilian Skills futsal team next season.”
