Want to boost your fitness, strength and wellbeing in the most beautiful of surroundings with some free yoga or pilates?
Sunshine Coast Council is offering a range of free or low-cost activities in the park, including free yoga, pilates and nature walks that are sure to give you renewed zest for life and strengthen your connection to nature and our community. The activities are all thanks to Parks Week 2024, which starts on Saturday, March 2.
You can also collect free trees to take home and enhance your own properties.
From Peregian Springs in the north to the Glass House Mountains in the south and the stunning coastline and tranquil hinterland in between, our region is home to almost 1300 outstanding natural parks and open spaces. Some are internationally recognised, like Buderim Village Park and the Kings Beach Precinct, recently heralded with The Green Flag Award.
Free yoga sounds great! But why all the activities in the park?
Parks Week 2024 celebrates the theme ‘How spending time in our parks and open spaces positively influences our wellbeing’. The Sunshine Coast’s recreation parks and open spaces play a fundamental role in creating liveable cities and thriving communities.
During Parks Week, Healthy Sunshine Coast encourages everyone to enjoy time in nature with low-cost classes in some of Council’s most beautiful park locations.
Healthy Sunshine Coast is the Council’s flagship community health and wellbeing program. It is a holistic, low-cost program suitable for all ages and abilities. The program aims to help you move well, eat well, sleep well, think well, and connect well, all while enjoying nature.
Sunshine Coast ratepayers can collect two free trees from the Council’s Nursery and chat with the friendly and experienced Parks and Gardens team to learn more about our region’s native plants.
How a trip to the park can change your life
Group Executive for Economic and Community Development Greg Laverty said spending time in nature or at a local park could change your mindset and refresh energy levels.
“Immerse yourself in nature and take part in some of the activities in the park this Parks Week and appreciate how spending time in our green spaces can improve your mood and wellbeing,” Mr Laverty said.
