Sunshine Coast kids have a new reason to get excited, with a water playground officially underway in the heart of Stockland’s growing Aura community.
Construction has begun on Aura Parklands, a 5.3-hectare green space and swimming lagoon precinct set to become a flagship feature of the future Aura City Centre. The development promises to deliver a vibrant and family-friendly hub, complete with a lifeguard-patrolled lagoon, water play zones, picnic and BBQ areas, and shady forest surrounds.
The project was launched with a sod-turning ceremony attended by Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli, who joined Stockland to mark the beginning of the landmark build.
Stockland General Manager – QLD Development, David Laner, said the space was designed with community connection and the coastal lifestyle front of mind.
“Aura is a vibrant and connected community that celebrates the quintessential Sunshine Coast lifestyle,” Mr Laner said.
“As the community grows, Aura Parklands will provide a recreational area where families can picnic, kids can play and swim safely, and the community can come together to socialise.”

What will be at the new water playground in Aura?
The new swimming lagoon will span around 2,100 square metres – almost the size of two Olympic swimming pools – and feature graded edges, stepped access and a maximum depth of 1.8 metres. Sunshine Coast Council will manage the lagoon and water play area once completed, including staffing and lifeguard services.
As well as being a recreational haven, the parklands are expected to strengthen the local economy by supporting the future Aura Retail Town Centre located adjacent to the site. Designed for seamless integration, the parklands and town centre will offer a connected experience for visitors and residents alike.
Mr Laner said the project reflects Stockland’s broader mission to build inclusive and lively communities.
“Infrastructure like Aura Parklands builds on our legacy of creating communities full of energy, soul and life,” he said.
The parklands are part of a larger 11.3-hectare recreational precinct currently in planning. The entire lagoon park project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
