Sprinkle kindness this Fairy Bread Day and help kids in care

Fairy Bread Day — the sweetest date on Australia’s calendar — is just around the corner, and this year’s celebration is about more than just colourful sprinkles. On November 24, families across Queensland are invited to “Sprinkle Kindness” by turning a slice of nostalgic childhood joy into a fundraiser for children in foster care.

The event, supported by Dollar Sweets and The Pyjama Foundation, celebrates the magic of simple pleasures — bread, butter and 100s & 1000s — while raising money to help kids in foster care build brighter futures. Throughout November, Dollar Sweets will donate 10 cents from every sale of their 100s & 1000s sprinkles to The Pyjama Foundation, which provides vital one-on-one mentoring and educational support for children in care.

Founded by Bronwyn Sheehan in 2004, The Pyjama Foundation runs the Love of Learning Program, pairing volunteer “Pyjama Angels” with children in foster care to improve literacy, confidence and life skills. More than 1,200 children are currently involved, and last year Fairy Bread Day raised an impressive $35,200 to support their work — a record organisers hope to surpass this year.

Families can get involved in countless ways — from hosting a Fairy Bread morning tea or classroom celebration, to simply sharing a sprinkle-topped slice with friends or neighbours. Every colourful creation and every small donation helps fund mentoring sessions, school supplies, and essential care for the 48,000 Australian children living in foster care.

“It’s such a simple, joyful way to give back,” a spokesperson for The Pyjama Foundation said. “When communities come together — even over something as small as a slice of Fairy Bread — it reminds these kids that they’re seen, supported, and loved.”

So this November, grab the butter knife, scatter those sprinkles, and celebrate one of Australia’s most iconic treats while helping change a child’s story.
