St Rita’s College celebrates 100 years of education, faith and community

A series of special events will be held throughout the year to honour this significant milestone at St Rita’s College Brisbane and the generations of people who have shaped the College’s story.

Principal, Maree Trims, said that 2026 is a moment of reflection and celebration.

“2026 is an opportunity to reflect on our rich history, to honour those who have come before us, and to give thanks for the enduring legacy they have left,” Mrs Trims said.

“To all who have walked through our gates – our Presentation Sisters, students, teachers, staff, alumnae, and families – we offer our gratitude. Your contributions, commitment, and passion have laid the foundation on which we continue to grow.” Mrs Trims said.

St Rita’s College first opened its doors in 1926, after Presentation Sisters Alice Kennedy (pbvm) and Mother M Patrick Madden (pbvm) purchased Stanley Hall along with four acres of land surrounding the residence.

Officially opened on 27 September that year, the College was registered as a Secondary School (boarding and day) in 1926 with boys and girls enrolled from Kindergarten to Year 3, and girls only from Years 4 to Senior.

St Rita’s College today

Today, 100 years on, St Rita’s College educates more than 1,200 girls from Years 5 to 12, continuing its mission of faith, learning, and service.

Throughout 2026, the College will host several events to mark the Centenary, including a staff celebration to acknowledge the contribution of past and present colleagues, a Presentation Sisters High Tea, a Gala Dinner, alumnae gatherings, and a Centenary Mass.

“For over a century, St Rita’s College has educated, empowered and inspired generations of young women to become confident, courageous and compassionate women of action. We look forward to sharing this milestone year with our community,” Mrs Trims said.
