Leslie Patrick Park’s flagship all abilities playground just got bigger and better with a new $500,000 sensory space for low-vision children.
The flagship all abilities playground at Leslie Patrick Park is officially bigger and better than ever. Opening today (Friday 26 June 2026), the site now features a specialised $500,000 play space beautifully tailored for residents and children with low or no vision.
This exciting new addition directly connects to the existing, award-winning playground that first captured local family hearts when it opened in late 2019.

An all abilities playground designed to be touched, heard, and felt
The innovative project was delivered by the City of Moreton Bay following extensive consultation with families who have lived experience, alongside experts from Vision Australia, occupational therapists, and speech pathologists.
The result is a highly thought-out space packed with interactive features that make independent play safer, easier, and more exciting for vision-impaired children.
The brand-new zone includes:
- A tactile braille trail that seamlessly leads young adventurers from one piece of equipment to the next.
- Engaging pavement art and a cosy beehive cubby.
- A dedicated sensory hangout zone and an interactive vibration post.
- Overhead optic sensory panels and lush gardens filled with sensory plants.
- A brand-new picnic shelter perfect for family lunches.
Making community spaces inclusive for everyone
The upgrade is a major milestone in the City of Moreton Bay’s journey toward its ultimate goal of becoming Queensland’s most accessible city.
Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery highlighted that the popular park was already a trailblazer for inclusive play when it first opened, and this investment ensures it remains a welcoming hub for everyone.
“We are delivering on our promise to prioritise providing accessible and inclusive parks and recreation spaces. This upgrade reaffirms our commitment that this important play space in the heart of The Hills District is accessible to everyone in the community,” Mayor Flannery said.
He noted that the carefully planned changes also provide valuable communication and educational opportunities, alongside quiet spaces and sensory elements for children who may need a moment to reset.
Join the free opening celebration
To celebrate the official opening of this landmark play space, a free community event is being held, and local families are invited to join in on the holiday fun.
The community celebration will take place on Wednesday 1 July 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.
Councillor Matt Constance (Division 10) extended a massive thank you to the local advocates, practitioners, and park users whose invaluable feedback directly shaped the final design.
“These latest upgrades are one more step in the journey to a truly All Ages, All Abilities play and recreation space — somewhere friends, family and community can come together, interact and enjoy the outdoors,” Cr Constance said.
Pack some snacks, grab the kids, and head down to Leslie Patrick Park this coming Wednesday to explore this incredible new sensory wonderland for yourself!
