When Sanctuary Early Learning Adventure Health and Knowledge Precinct (Sanctuary HKP) was first introduced to the Gold Coast community, the vision was clear— to create a premium early learning environment that prioritises accessibility, inclusivity, and excellence in early childhood education. Since opening its doors, this new Gold Coast early learning centre has become more than just a beautifully designed space; it has evolved into a thriving community where children and families feel supported, nurtured, and empowered.
This Gold Coast early learning centre was years in the making
The journey to opening Sanctuary HKP took four years of careful planning. Ensuring that every detail—from the centre’s design to the delivery of care and education—aligned with Sanctuary’s core values. The team understood that creating an exceptional early learning environment was not just about building inviting spaces; it was about assembling the right team of educators who share the centre’s commitment to respect, inclusion, and excellence in early childhood education.
Sanctuary HKP educators were carefully selected based on their connection to the philosophy, experience, and ability to create meaningful learning experiences for children. To uphold high standards of care, every team member participated in an intensive two-week induction program before welcoming families through the doors.
Investing in educators: The foundation for exceptional care
Sanctuary believes that an early learning centre is only as strong as its educators. Children thrive in environments where they feel safe, supported, and understood, and the team at Sanctuary is dedicated to providing just that. The comprehensive induction training included:
- Trauma-Informed Practice – Equipping educators with strategies to support children’s emotional well-being.
- Neurodiversity Awareness – Enhancing understanding of autism, ADHD, and other neurological differences to foster inclusivity.
- Cultural Responsiveness & Indigenous Perspectives – Encouraging respect for diverse backgrounds and embedding First Nations cultures into daily learning.
- Visual Communication & Support Strategies – Implementing tools like keyword signing and visuals to enhance communication for all children.
This group learning prior to opening set the standard for the lead educators and assistant educators. It offered insight into the vision for this centre and engaged them in this journey
Sanctuary ensures that its educators are not only exceptional teachers but also mentors, caregivers, and role models who nurture every child’s unique journey.

The family model of support in early learning
One of the most significant additions to the Sanctuary approach has been the introduction of the Family Model of Support—a dedicated initiative designed to provide tailored assistance to families navigating additional needs, vulnerability, or awaiting a diagnosis. Implemented by Sanctuary’s Diversity and Inclusion Leader, the support offers:
- Guidance through health and education pathways – Assisting parents in understanding and accessing referrals, therapy options, and NDIS support.
- In-house Diversity and Inclusion Leader – A specialist available across all Sanctuary locations to provide tailored guidance and support.
- Support for transitions – Helping families navigate key transitions, from home to childcare and into primary school.
This initiative has been a game-changer for many families, ensuring that Sanctuary is not just a childcare centre but a true support system.
Creating a true learning sanctuary
Almost six months after opening, it’s clear that the impact of this new Sanctuary centre extends beyond the physical space. Every child who walks through its doors is welcomed into an emotionally nurturing environment, where days are filled with inquiry, discovery, rich learning, and heaps of fun.
