Small school makes big impact with online learning

Amid school closures across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast for the first time this year, Caloundra City Private School again rolled out online learning for five consecutive days with great success.

The school remained dedicated to facilitating fully-timetable online programs for its students, whereby even Junior School specialist lessons of Japanese, HPE and Music did not skip a beat.

While schools across Southeast Queensland were only away from classrooms for one-week this time, Caloundra City Private School Principal Mrs Sherrie Cuthbert said she could not be more proud of the school’s ability to quickly enact exceptional online learning.

“Our entire teaching team and student community was set up and ready to commence online learning from Monday morning following the Premier’s weekend announcement, which was a truly incredible team effort,” Mrs Cuthbert said.

“As educators, our main goal during this lockdown period was to not only ensure students continuity of learning, but to also continue supporting students’ emotional wellbeing while they were learning from home under challenging circumstances.

“We were grateful to receive positive feedback from parents and students alike, all the way from Kindergarten right through to Year 12,” she said.

From backyard mindfulness, deep breathing and ‘Bring your Pet’ morning check-ins for Wellbeing, to fun-filled online workout lessons and home fitness challenges for HPE, the Caloundra City Private School community certainly stayed engaged and connected online.

For Prep students, this was their first time learning online – a big feat for little learners who took it in their stride.

What did Caloundra City Private School Prep parents have to say about the experience?

  • “Harriet was nervous to start online learning and missed her teachers and friends, so we set up her own little school for her to help her feel as normal as possible. She most looks forward to her online classes each day and can’t wait for her specialist lessons, especially Japanese, as she thought she was going to miss it whilst at home.” – Sarah
  • “Evie and Millie have been eager little home learners, full of smiles. They found Microsoft Teams classes a little overwhelming at first, but had the hang of it by day two and so looked forward to seeing their class mates and Miss Bennett.” – Stacy
  • “I’m so grateful for all the extra effort of staff and teachers to make this remote learning seamless and enjoyable.” – Anna.
  • “Audrey missed her class and seeing her friends, but was so excited for Miss Bennett and her classmates to appear on her iPad everyday! Sport with Mrs. K was the highlight of her week!” – Nell.
