The Flinders Early Learning Centre (FELC) team at Buderim on the Sunshine Coast is delighted to have “exceeded expectations” in all seven quality areas of the National Quality Standards in their 2023 accreditation process. FELC was applauded for its “outstanding result” by the Queensland Department of Education’s Early Childhood Education and Care.
The centre supports 120 families with children from three to six years of age through a Reggio Emilia approach and creative Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs.
The report recognised FELC’s commitment to values of ‘play’ and ‘nature’ through its Bush Kindy program, Flinders Farm visits, and community and rainforest garden offerings.
The programs are committed to developing a balance between child-centred and adult-led play, and there are extended blocks of time for children to make discoveries, elaborate on projects, engage all five senses and evolve a script in symbolic play.
The report noted: “At FELC, the environment truly is a third teacher, with intentional design and connection to nature significant features of the thoughtfully curated spaces for children, families and educators.
“Robust and effective risk identification, analysis and management systems safeguard children while encouraging freedom, exploration and meaningful participation for every child.
“FELC’s outstanding result is reflective of the exceptional team, dedicated and inspirational leadership, and a shared desire for genuine connection and positive outcomes for children, families and the wider community.”
Director Jo Osborne said FELC’s team of 30 teachers and educators was delighted to receive an outstanding accreditation report.
FELC excelled in all seven quality areas of educational program and practice, children’s health and safety, physical environment, staffing arrangements, relationships with children, collaborative partnerships, and governance and leadership.
“Our team at FELC proudly strives to create the most supportive, creative and caring environment and learning experience for our children, so it is wonderful to be recognised for this commitment,” Mrs Osborne said.
“The aim is for our young learners to feel empowered, safe, seen and heard throughout their learning journey,” she said.
“We thank our FELC families for their involvement in and support of our learning approach, whether attending our workshops, supporting the children’s creative projects or appreciating the efforts of our staff to do the best for their children.”
The centre is located in a rainforest setting alongside leading independent Prep to Year 12 school, Matthew Flinders Anglican College.
Many families choose to transition their children from FELC to the Preparatory year at Matthew Flinders Anglican College, with the College recently endorsed as ‘Primary School of the Year (Non-Government)’ at the Australian Education Awards.
