5 Ways to boost your skincare routine for spring

Whoa Mama! The days are getting longer, the mornings are getting lighter and the sun has pushed its way through the clouds to give us glorious outdoor weather. Spring is officially here and you know what that means… It’s time to give your skincare routine a well-deserved boost.

Changing your skincare routine to suit the season isn’t some marketing ploy. Your skin needs change throughout the year, which means you need your skincare schedule to change with it. It’s more than just upping your SPF in the summer months, too!

You might have noticed your skin gets flaky and dry during the winter months or you have an unexpected break-out. These things happen in response to the changing temperatures around you. For example, you might have given your body the once over with a heavy moisturiser during winter to stop it looking nasty. But in spring, the weight of those moisturisers might not be what your skin needs to stay hydrated.

Also, with the blooming of new buds and the freshness of spring, now’s the time to shed that winter skin with a gentle exfoliation. Give your skin a glow that matches the season we’re in.

Obviously, slapping on the sunscreen and protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays remains a priority. Keep it on your skincare routine to ensure you don’t get caught out.

Here are five tips you can boost your skincare routine for spring…

Hydration

Just as you change your wardrobe from jumpers and jeans to lighter fabrics and shorter hemlines, so too does your skincare routine. Your skin still requires hydration, but it may feel more comfortable with something lighter.

You might want to swap your thicker hydrating creams for a more refreshing and light mixture. If you have oily skin, you’ll want to use a product that reduces the shine while still giving your skin the hydration it deserves.

Look for water gels, oil-free moisturisers and other products that also allow you to apply your make-up should you need to.

Cleansing

Sometimes the shift from cooler to warmer months sees your skin react by gifting you a pimply break-out. It can happen at any age! It’s possibly due to a build-up of sweat that occurs throughout the day now that your basking in the sunshine again. You might want to look at your cleanser and ensure that you have something gentle and hardworking, so the excess oils are removed from your skin before you go to sleep at night.

Balm cleansers can be great, but they can also leave a residue on your skin. If that’s you, try a cream or gel cleanser instead.

If you have a combination skin type, consider a soap-free foaming cleanser. These remove the toxins without aggravating your skin.

Exfoliation and serums

A mild exfoliator and replenishing serum are sure to be your best friends in spring. Exfoliators are what you use to ‘nibble’ away at the dead skin cells, refining any uneven skin tone you might have and leaving you skin with this sort of radiant glow. When it comes to exfoliation, you don’t want to overly strip your skin of physically damage the surface. If exfoliation is new for you, experts suggest starting slow — use maybe once of twice a week and then build up your use if it’s required.

A good serum is packed with hydration. It also helps stimulate your skin’s production of its own hydrating molecules and natural moisturising factors.

SPF

In Queensland sunscreen should be worn all-year-round! As the sun’s rays start to intensify it becomes more important than ever to protect your skin. Your skincare routine should include an efficient SPF. There are so many moisturisers juggling their responsibilities, so find one that no only boosts your skins vitality but also shields it from the harmful sun.

If you have sensitive skin or are highly active, consider using something that is water, sweat and sand resistant. You also want your SPF to be able to protect your skin from harmful UVA, UVB and ultra-long UVA rays.

Spritz and mist

Use the start of spring to reset your skincare routine. You want it to be hydrated without it feeling weighed down. You want to be protected. To help, there are a range of refreshing face spritzers and mists. Giving your face a spritz through the day with a lightweight mist is a fantastic way of boosting your skin’s hydration. Some even come with additional SPF protection, so it pays to shop around.
