Coochin Fields approved, paving the way for family-friendly tourism boost on the Sunshine Coast

The future of Coochin Fields has been confirmed, with approval granted for a major events and holiday park destination at Coochin Creek — a move set to strengthen the Sunshine Coast’s reputation as both a lifestyle haven and a family tourism hotspot.

The approved Coochin Fields site will host year-round outdoor music festivals and large-scale events for up to 35,000 people, while more than 60 hectares of the 150-hectare property will remain untouched. Environmental safeguards form part of the conditions, including wildlife-friendly fencing, stormwater management and operational plans to protect neighbouring national park and state forest land.

Importantly for local families, the announcement follows approval of the adjoining Coochin Creek Holiday Resort — a 150-site tourist park designed with family holidays at its heart.

A new family-focused holiday destination

Comiskey Group Director David Comiskey said reaching approval is a significant milestone for the long-planned project.

“While we’ve drawn on our experience building, owning and operating the popular Sandstone Point Holiday Resort, Coochin Creek Holiday Resort will be a unique destination in its own right, designed specifically for this location,” Mr Comiskey said.

“It will create local jobs, attract new visitors and deliver a family-friendly ecotourism experience that truly showcases the Sunshine Coast.”

Purchased by the Comiskey Group in 2021, the former strawberry farm site will undergo extensive revegetation, with trees, shrubs and native plants reintroduced to restore the largely cleared landscape.

The approved holiday park will feature 75 camping and caravan sites and 75 cabins in one-, two-, and three-bedroom configurations, offering flexible accommodation options for families of all sizes.

Plans include a waterplay park, swim-up bar, jumping pillow, pickleball courts, putt putt golf and other recreational facilities designed to cater for all ages.

Jobs, tourism and local opportunity

The broader Coochin Fields development is expected to support more than 680 jobs and generate more than $70 million in annual economic activity for the Sunshine Coast.

With the Comiskey Group also behind the much-loved Sandstone Point Holiday Resort near Bribie Island — one of Australia’s most popular BIG4 holiday parks — the project brings experienced long-term operators to the region. The group has continued to expand its Sunshine Coast footprint in recent years, including the acquisition of Eumundi Brewery in 2025 and the renovation of the historic Imperial Hotel in Eumundi.

For local families, the development signals more than just major events. It represents expanded holiday options close to home, new employment opportunities and increased investment in the region’s tourism infrastructure.

As the Sunshine Coast continues to grow, Coochin Fields is shaping up to be a significant new destination — one that aims to balance large-scale entertainment, family-friendly accommodation and environmental restoration in one of the Coast’s most naturally beautiful pockets.
