$10m luxury farm stay ‘Sixty6 Acres’ proposed for Woombye

A Sunshine Coast developer is planning a $10 million farm stay and adventure park in a picturesque country setting.

Highgate Developments Pty Ltd directors Andrew and Joanne Pitcher have big plans for creating farm-based accommodation facilities and activities on the idyllic 26.5-hectare (66-acre) site on Diddillibah Road, Woombye.

If approved, Sixty6 Acres (a tip of the hat to the property’s size) will feature 132 sites. There will be 20 two-bedroom high-end cabins, 19 luxury glamping tents, 49 caravan and RV sites and 44 camping sites. Bordering Paynter’s Creek, Sixty6 Acres will also be a working animal farm and local produce supplier.

In addition to the accommodation options, the proposal includes:

  • The Stables, accommodating a variety of farm animals for guest interaction
  • Adventure Park and mountain biking trails across the north-east of the site
  • Water activities from the jetty on the central dam (perfect for kayaks, paddle boards and fishing)
  • Bushwalking trails over the north-western portion of the site
  • A community centre, which includes an integrated African safari-style infinity pool
  • Sports precinct at the northern portion of the site
  • Golf pitch and putt located near the sports precinct
  • Fire pits and picnic tables throughout
  • A country café (reusing the existing primary dwelling on-site).

Nothing like it in south-east Queensland

Speaking to the Sunshine Coast News, Mr Pitcher says the unique tourist park will attract Sunshine Coast locals and travellers alike. It’s located 10km from the beach, 15 minutes from the Sunshine Coast Airport and roughly 1-hour from Brisbane.

He says Sixty6 Acres will differentiate itself by providing multiple, high-quality accommodation options, farm experiences and recreation and relaxation facilities that are unparalleled on the Sunshine Coast.

“There is definitely nothing like it [in south-east Queensland],” Mr Pitcher says.

With three children, the Pitchers have enjoyed farm stay-style travel experiences world-wide. Mr Pitcher says these experiences helped in planning the tourist park.

He says Sixty6 Acres is a mix of all the good things they’ve seen and would like to do themselves, highlighting that kids will certainly be kept entertained.

The Pitchers intend to bring Sixty6 Acres to life in stages over the coming years. The comprehensive development application was submitted to Sunshine Coast Regional Council in March. It is being assessed.

Long history in the area

Mr and Mrs Pitcher attended Woombye and Nambour State Primary schools respectively, and jointly attended Nambour State High.

The family is active in community sports.

The couple’s family heritage goes back several years in the area. Mr Pitcher’s parents were pineapple farmers in Woombye and Nambour from the 1950s to ’70s.
