For nature-loving kids, Maroochy Botanic Gardens is one of the best things to do with kids on the Sunshine Coast! There are lots of different walks to choose from, including the 1km lagoon walk and the 2km creek walk. Be sure to explore the sculpture garden and the whipbird walk, where children can discover fantasy creatures such as a giant spider and exotic butterflies. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the shade.

Aussie World

Sunshine Coast Kids and Parents on the Bug Run at Aussie World

For the thrillseekers in the family, Aussie World is a must-do. There’s plenty of rides for young 
and old, from the Toot Toot train and the Bug Run up to the terrifying Redback. Love to drive? Test your metal at the Speed Stars Race Track. If adrenalin rides aren’t your thing, you can cool off on the Leak n’ Logs water play area, play a round of mini golf or be boggled in Professor Boggleworth’s Illusionarium.

Gardner’s Falls

If you are exploring the hinterland, Gardner’s Falls provides a great place to cool off, with a swimming hole and rock pools to explore. There is also a rope swing which is popular with the teens. Access is via a short path alongside the Obi Obi Creek, making it perfect for younger children. The falls are at their best after rain, but watch out as the rocks can get slippery, so little ones should hold hands. This can get busy on peak days.

Cobb and Co Nine Mile Camping Grounds

If you are looking for to switch off and reconnect with the family, Cobb and Co Camping Grounds is the perfect destination. The camp site has permanent on-site tents available, or powered and unpowered camping sites if you already have all the gear. There’s heaps for the kids to do including a BMX track, children’s playground, flying foxes, and a billabong for swimming and kayaking. There are always extra activities happening for kids during the school holidays too, such as pony rides and tractor rides.

With the second stage of the refurbishment complete, The Wharf Mooloolaba now has plenty to offer families looking for a day out. Spend a few hours at Sea Life Sunshine Coast and experience the spectacular marine life, then head to one of the many family friendly eateries. For the sweeter tooth, don’t miss the gelato at Fior Di Latte Gelateria. Overlooking the Mooloolah River, there’s also a range of water-based activities available such as whale watching (in season), snorkelling, river cruises and the ability to hire a wide range of water craft. If that’s not enough, the beautiful Mooloolaba Beach is on the doorstep.

Take your Sunshine Coast Kids to Australia Zoo

Crikey, a day at Australia Zoo is 
a must-do for any family summer on the Sunshine Coast, but when did you last go? Feed the kangaroos, take in the croc show, visit Bindi’s Island and cool off at the Laughing Frog Water Park. There’s always extra activities happening for the kids during the school holidays too. Take advantage of the free train that shuttles around the zoo (little legs can get tired).

Kings Beach and Ocean Pool

With plenty of parking, BBQ facilities and easy access, Kings Beach is one of the best things to do with kids on the Sunshine Coast. The foreshore has a free 25-metre natural sea water pool, children’s swimming pool and wading area with disabled access. The children’s pool also has a water fountain to keep them entertained. The pool is equipped with shade sails so it’s an ideal spot to escape the heat.

Peregian Beach

Peregian Beach Village is One of the Best Things to Do with Kids on the Sunshine Coast

If you want a day at the beach without the crowds, the lesser-known Peregian Beach is a quaint beachside village with everything a family needs. Even in summer, the beach isn’t overly crowded. The Foreshore Park has plenty of things to do for your Sunshine Coast kids, a great playground, a skate park, and plenty of space to burn off energy. There is also a village square where kids can play whilst you enjoy a picnic or takeaway from one of the many eateries. Head over on the first and third Sunday mornings of the month to experience the beachside markets, with live music, entertainment, and a bounty of local arts, crafts and produce.

Noosa National Park Track

This spectacular seaside boardwalk is easy for families and has some of the region’s most picturesque coastline. There are plenty of spots to stop off along the way for a paddle or to investigate the rock pools. Look for koalas munching leaves overhead in the trees.
