Sunshine Coast families smashing through winter with combined tennis lessons

KT Academy at Mooloolaba Tennis Club on the Sunshine Coast is keeping kids and parents fit and active this winter thanks to its fresh approach to scheduling.

This busy tennis academy has successfully run its year-round Junior Hot Shots program for several years. And now, this popular Junior program is scheduled to coincide with a selection of parent sessions.

“While the kids are on the court playing, we’ve got tennis and pickleball for the parents. So they can socialise and exercise while their kids playing,” says Adon Kronk, Director at KT Academy.

Ticking off daily exercise is a constant challenge for parents and carers. There’s no hesitation about ferrying kids around from their various activities, but it’s a different story when fitting in workouts for yourself.

“The flexibility of tennis makes it a popular choice for families looking for a year-round activity, and it’s one they can share in their spare time, too,” says Adon.

Junior Hot Shots Program tennis lessons on the Sunshine Coast

The Junior Hot Shots Program caters for kids of all abilities from ages 3 to 18. But Adon recommends getting the kids started when they are young, as the Junior Hot Shots program structure offers huge scope for development and growth.

“Our Red Ball Program for 5-8-year-olds is the perfect introduction to tennis for kids. They learn the fundamentals of tennis whilst improving their motor skills and having heaps of fun on a reduced-size court. And they can stay with the program through to Yellow Ball at 18! ”

Adon says that an enormous appeal of tennis is that, unlike seasonal sports, tennis is a game you can play for life.

“There’s no start and finish time; you aren’t locked into a season and left with a gap and inevitable skills loss when the season ends. Tennis is always there, winter or summer!”

KT Academy has school holidays covered, too, offering a program of half-day or full-day activities for kids throughout the school holidays.
