A new initiative called Pathways to Plate is giving families a simple way to support young people, by enjoying a meal or picking up a locally made gift.
Launched by STEPS Pathways Charity, Pathways to Plate brings together four STEPS social enterprises into one meaningful, circular program that takes students on a journey from learning, to growing, to cooking, and finally to contributing to their community.
At STEPS Pathways College, students build practical life skills through hands-on horticulture, cookery and hospitality programs. The produce they grow is nurtured and harvested at STEPS Garden Centre, before making its way into the kitchen at STEPS Café on George.
There, students help create a seasonal range of meals, drinks and take-home products under the Pathways to Plate name, including homemade jams, chutneys and cordials. These products are available for purchase at both the café and garden centre, with menus and flavours changing regularly to reflect what’s in season.
For locals, it’s a feel-good option that goes beyond great food. Every purchase directly supports inclusive education and life-changing opportunities at STEPS, helping students gain confidence, independence and real-world experience in a supportive environment.
Pathways to Plate products also make thoughtful gifts for birthdays, thank-yous or housewarmings, with custom bundles available for workplaces seeking meaningful corporate gifts.
By connecting garden, kitchen and community, Pathways to Plate shows how everyday choices can help young people take meaningful steps towards a brighter, more independent future… one plate at a time.
