The playground game just went to the next level, with the official opening of the Gold Coast’s new Play Attraction. The $5 million kids playground is part of the Broadwater Parkland’s upgrade, spanning 5,000 square-metres and featuring equipment for all abilities. It’s set to become a new foreshore destination for families!
You’ll find the playground at the northern end of the Broadwater. Its features are amazing!
Play equipment for all ages and abilities
There is a four-level spiral tower with interactive play equipment, including binoculars and telescopes, suspended nets, rope tunnels and an enclosed slide. The tower has nets of different sizes and bridges. This is great for kids of all ages, climbing their way up (and then back down) in safety.
You’ll also find a water and sand play area. There are carved sandstone, bronze sea animals, water pumps, mini weirs and water gates.
We like the elevated sand play table — designed as a fish and chip shop — suitable for wheelchair access. Also, there are floor bells and musical elements at a lower level.
Play equipment includes balance beams, a carousel, climbing walls and nets, diggers, play panels, swings, slides, stepping stones and trampolines.
In a nod to the local flora and fauna, the playground features information about birds and marine life. Kids will enjoy interacting with the oversized mud crabs, bird sculptures and murals. There are also creative discovery trails to explore. For those with musical inclinations, have fun belting out a bird call tune with one of the glockenspiels.
The variety of things kids can engage with is extensive. They’ll easily spend a day exploring.
Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction takes sun safety into consideration
The Play Attraction takes sun safety seriously! There is plenty of shade covering this playground and the sea breezes keep temperatures cool on your skin.
You’ll also find shaded seating and table areas in the surrounding parkland.
The design of the area encourages social gatherings and picnics. There are barbecue facilities too! Public amenities are nearby.
The Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction is certain to become a popular spot. When the weather warms, the lagoon off the broadwater makes for a shallow and calm water swimming spot. Don’t forget to pack your swimmers.
Gold Coast invests in parks and community
The opening of the Play Attraction is part of a $120 million investment in the Gold Coast’s parks and community spaces.
Mayor Tom Tate says the 2,300 parks on the Coast are a “massive drawcard” for local and visitors.
This attraction is just one piece of the puzzle that is supporting the liveability and vision of this city,” he says.
The Broadwater Parklands Play Attraction has its grand opening on Saturday, August 20 from 9am to 2pm.
